Site Design Summary

My dad has been asking for help with his website for a long time. He has done a great job creating and maintaining his own website where he markets the ministry software he develops. But since delving full-time into his software business, he realized that his website needed a more professional look that embodied the quality his products possess. We dreamed and planned together over many late-night phone chats and webmeetings, and in just six short weeks, we had a brand new site up and running, with several new features still on their way.

As I considered the framework from which to build my dad’s site, I wanted a solution that would give us quick results yet still be one that he could easily update. In the end, I decided to go with Textpattern again to manage the content. I consider the site semi-database-driven, in that although every page is produced by the database, many of the pages are just static templates that cannot be easily updated in Textpattern. Now that I’ve completed two sites using Textpattern, I realize that there are much simpler ways to get the same outcome, and I probably won’t shy away from making the next site completely dynamic. Having said all that, JimFaull.com is still largely dynamic in that it incorporates a blog (online journal), FAQs that Dad can update via the Textpattern interface, and random ministry tips and recent posts appearing on the homepage.

My dad seems very pleased with his site, and I have to say it was by far the most fun site I’ve done. The design came together in record time, and it was just so much fun to work with him on a project that boosts his business and mine. I look forward to seeing the results of our teamwork.
