Site Design Summary
First Baptist’s website has an interesting history, some of which you can read about on the other FBC portfolio page. Long story short, I desperately needed to redesign the site using XHTML and CSS and to incorporate a CMS to make the site easily updatable. The new site does just that, and it uses Textpattern to manage the database-driven content throughout the site. Nearly every page on the site, other than forms and a couple of static pages, is dynamically generated by PHP and can be updated by a person with average computer skills.
I freshened up some of the content this go round and incorporated some new registration forms, as well as a media order form and online prayer request submission. The library database can be accessed online, although I chose not to style it like the rest of the site, simply because most of my work on the site is voluntary. There are just not enough hours in the day. This redesign also includes a Javascript slideshow of header images that many people have mistaken for a Flash video.
Overall, I am very pleased with the site. I feel that it represents who the church is and the atmosphere contained therein. I have even bigger visions for the site in the future, and I built it in such a way that it is easily expandable with minimal additional work.
