Life in Oklahoma

Last night when I went to bed, I started thinking that I might have come across a bit down on Oklahoma.  And I’m not down on it at all, so I thought I might clarify my true feelings about living here.

The First 14 Random Things

This meme has been going around Facebook, and I’ve been tagged a couple dozen times.  I don’t usually do these things (isn’t that what you’re supposed to say before you do one?), but I nearly split my sides last night laughing at two of my friends who did, so I decided I want a piece of the action.  The point is to write 25 random things about yourself, and then to tag your friends on Facebook so they’ll do the same and tag you back.  It’s to “learn more about each other.” But I say, no way.  It’s to get a good laugh.

South Beach Report

The results are in.  Phase 1 in the McKelvey South Beach Diet is officially ending at midnight.  Bill and I are both so near our target weight it’s crazy.  Who knew two weeks could wipe out several years of extra pounds?

South Beach Day 2

South Beach is a good name for a diet.  It’s a constant reminder of swimsuit weather.  That name, however, does not make me any less hungry for something sweet and soft to sink my teeth into.  I didn’t realize how often I just pick up something random to eat.  And now...all those random things are off the list.  And I know I have some spritz cookies left in my Christmas tree jar… And yes, I still have Christmas stuff out.  (The tree is put away though.)

Power Hour

If I had already made my official list, I would have already spoiled my resolutions.  Instead, I’ve found a better way to accomplish the greater goal of having a cleaner house.  First of all, it’s always a bad idea to determine to do any one thing every day.  You’re setting yourself up for failure, and I realize that.  Honestly, I don’t even like to aim for a certain number of times per week.  Then I’m constantly having to scold myself for falling down on the job.  The idea with making resolutions is to improve your efforts in life in some way, so that each year you are better than the year before.  I often aim for doing something every day so that I feel more committed to the task.  It seldom works.

South Beach WHAT?

My list of New Year’s Resolutions, er, um, goals, does not include dieting.  I plan to blog about that list at some point in time, once I fully have my mind made up about them.  I figure, hey!  Wait to see which ones you can keep, and call ‘em then!  But anyway, the “d” word.  Bill came home yesterday talking about his friend who is on the South Beach Diet.  I could tell he was pretty determined to do it, and I realized that meant I, likewise, would be doing it with him.  I am, after all, the one who prepares his meals.  I can’t fix healthy stuff for him and eat the same old junk myself.
