Closing Out Christmas
Dec 26, 2007 Categorized: Life with Kids • News •
Well I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was so full of blessings and fun! I’ve contemplated much the last few days about the true meaning of Christmas and how we have ended up making it such a season of busyness. I plan to take some time to think out my musings through some typed words, to which of course, you will be privy.

Me, a Music Teacher?
Dec 20, 2007 Categorized: News •
I’ve never been a school teacher in my life. I’ve never even wanted to be a school teacher. My college degree was not in music, although I did probably spend enough time in the music building to have earned one there. And I didn’t know a thing about how to create a comprehensive music curriculum for Kindergarten through fourth grade. So I was pretty dumbfounded when the principal of Will’s preschool asked to me to be the music teacher THE WEEK BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED. With NO curriculum.

Blog When You’re Tired
Dec 18, 2007 Categorized: Musings •
I’m waiting for my coffee to brew. It’s after 3:00 and time for my afternoon coffee break. But just like usual, I’m so exhausted that if I sit down in the armchair, I may not get back up to pour my coffee. So I’m taking my own advice from a blog I once thought up but never wrote, to blog when I’m tired.

Funny Words
Dec 17, 2007 Categorized: Life with Kids •
Kids are known for saying funny things. I used to keep a list of all the funny things Will said, but I’m not sure what happened to it. Anyhow, this week has produced some funny words that I thought I’d share.

Where the Snow Blows
Dec 15, 2007 Categorized: Life with Kids •
We’re getting the tail end of the winter storm that’s raking across the midwest. Unfortunately though, it takes a whole lot of snow for us to actually see it sitting on the ground. When it snows this far west, the snow doesn’t fall. It blows. Sideways. The snow that sits on our grass probably started two counties away.

The Tupperware Principle
Dec 11, 2007 Categorized: Recipes •
My worthwhile cooking efforts are so few and far between, I thought I’d share my soup recipe from last night. I’ve never been a big soup fan until I had some really good ones in the past couple of years. A sweet lady in our church brought us some Mexican Chicken Soup after I had Hunter that will make you slap your mamma. So when she gave me a recipe for potato soup two weeks ago, I immediately bought the ingredients and added it to my menu.

Thank You Notes, Take 2
Dec 09, 2007 Categorized: Life with Kids •
So there I was, the very day after I implemented my new thank-you note system, staring down at a pile of written, addressed, stamped, and TORN-UP envelopes. Such a vivid picture of how my children have invaded every single area of my life. I LOVE my children, and they have been such a blessing, but WOW. The messes they can make.

Potty-training and Bedtime Excuses

I was just sitting here reading my friend’s blog when in toddled my 2 1/2-year-old rubbing her eyes and announcing she needed to “tee-tee.” What is it with kids and bedtime? They will use ANY excuse to get out of the bed.

Gingerbread’s Anatomy

I am Martha Stewart’s worst nightmare. That is especially sad considering she’s set as my homepage. I used to look forward to doing my Christmas baking until I screwed it up so many times that I realized I mess up more recipes than I actually finish. That little fact only took me seven years to figure out.

Christmas Thank Yous
Dec 01, 2007 Categorized: Organize • Simplify •
Yesterday we received our first Christmas gift. As a southern lady, the first thing that crosses my mind when I receive any kind of gift or service is the need to write a thank you note. For some reason, the term “thank you note” has become quite a burden to me in recent years. Today I decided once and for all to revamp my miserable thank-you writing habit.
