Since I’ve been absent from my blogging habit for so long, I’m sure my out-of-towners are a little out of the loop on my current life situation.  I thought I’d take a minute to update you on the happenings of what I will refer to from now on as the Heather Kate household.

Bill and I celebrated our seventh anniversary over the summer, and we are still at our same address as when last I blogged.  I am hanging on tightly to the last few months of my twenties, and I still wonder how exactly I’m going to accomplish my personal goal of becoming wildly successful by age 30.

The Kids

My children are growing like crazy, which is quite a blessing, if you know some of our circumstance.  Will is four years old and is attending preschool five mornings a week.  He loves learning to read and comes home singing all kinds of cute little songs.  Our nighttime routine has somehow come to include an impromptu song about the day’s activities written and sung by...Yours Truly.  Jesus Loves Me, Amazing Grace, and Silent Night fail to fit the bill for my little whippersnapper.

The little Auntie Holly of the family, Hunter makes us laugh every single day.  She loves to hear the sound of her voice, and at age two, she has a vocabulary that surpasses most kindergarteners.  We still find ourselves calling her Seesa, a nickname meaning “sister,” which her brother gave her at birth.  Hunter loves to play with her baby dolls, and I often see her wondering around the house with a cell phone on each ear.  She is very tiny for her age but remains on the growth curve.  We’re holding out as long as possible before those growth hormones become part of the daily routine.

My Jobs

This school year I was surprised with the proposition of teaching music part-time at our Christian school.  With only a day or two to decide and make childcare arrangements for Hunter, I felt strongly urged that I needed to take the position.  I had never taught music before, save a lone piano student in college, and I don’t have a music education degree or a teaching certificate.  But somehow the Lord has done His usual equipping, and I’m neck-deep in preparations for our K-4th grade Christmas musical.  The teaching job only requires five hours a week, so I have plenty of time left to pursue my other careers.  It has also turned out to be an amazing blessing for many reasons that I may share at a later date.

October marked my one-year anniversary as an Independent Consultant with Southern Living at HOME.  I am still partying 3-5 times a month, and I have proudly watched my business grow to include a team of consultants who spur me on to success.  I am always on the look-out for good hostesses and motivated consultants.  If you know of anyone who wants a fun and flexible job, send ‘em my way.

And last, but not least, the web design job.  Right now I’m actually taking a more entrepreneurial approach with my computer, and I’m turning down clients to work on my own projects.  They’re not earning any income just yet, but once I’m up and running, I believe my work will pay off.  But as I say that, I’m thinking of two clients that are waiting for work as we speak.  I’m still carrying on business as usual with my long-standing web and graphic-design clients, so it makes for a little bit slower progress.

Overall, I spend at least 20 hours a week pursuing this crazy combination of jobs, and I do it all while staying home nearly full-time with my children.  I don’t sleep as much as I need to, but I think the fulfillment is worth the sacrifice.
