Doin’ Sick Time

Monday afternoon as I put fresh sheets on all the beds, I told myself it was a guarantee for a night of soiling sheets.  That’s pretty much the way it always happens.  Murphy’s Law, I guess.  But I had no idea Hunter was coming down with a stomach virus and would vomit all over her bed at just 10:30, before I even hit the sack.

I was very glad it was then instead of two hours after retiring for the night.  It’s always so much harder to stay up late when you’ve already snuggled under the covers.  So Hunter continued to be sick most of the night, and I finally got to sleep a little before getting up to get Will ready for school the next morning.  Hunter ran fever all day and could not eat, and it continued all the way until today.  After still running a fever at nearly 101, she finally got a trip to the doctor.

After a blood stick (including a trip to the hospital lab since the clinic CBC machine was broken), an examination, and a throat culture at the clinic lab, we finally got to head back home armed with nothing but a viral diagnosis and no end in sight.  We are now entering Day 5 of this awful illness where Hunter still has fever and cannot eat two bites.

I have cancelled everything this week, and have even had to miss school both days.  I have spent most of each day rocking Hunter while she watched Baby Einstein videos over, and over, and over.  Thank goodness she requested them over the Wiggles or Elmo.  The good news: I’m nearly finished with the book I’m reading, Polar Shift by Clive Cussler.  (This is my first Cussler book, and I am so much loving it!  I just cannot do those sappy romance novels my girlfriend recommended.  I like my books action packed like my dad does!) Hunter has let me read the whole time I’ve been rocking her.  The bad news?  My left arm is about to fall off it’s so soar from carrying her everywhere, and the dust level in the house is astronomical.

But tomorrow is Saturday, and Hunter will have her brother to keep her company while I spiffy up the house a bit and iron our Sunday clothes.  Now if I can just find the motivation to do that after I’ve been sitting on my rump all week.  I really didn’t mind the change of pace.  It sort of reminded me of the first few months after we moved here when Will was a baby and I was adjusting to life as a stay-at-home mom.  Man, those were peaceful days.

Hollabacks

Sorry Hunter is sick, but it’s good to have some sit on your rump time too, just to bad it had to be this way!!

Get Well Soon Hunter!!

I sure hope Hunter is feeling better by now.  It must break your heart to see her so sick and not be able to make it stop.  Sometimes life has a way of slowing us down when we won’t do it for ourselves, doesn’t it?  I’ve been sick since before Christmas, and after weeks of it I finally realized that maybe God was trying to tell me something.  Or maybe I just got sick...I don’t know!  Either way, my couch has definitely taken on the imprint of my rump this last month, so I feel for you.  I’ve also done a LOT of reading.  I used to read military thrillers or courtroom thrillers--everything by John Grisham, but my current books of choice are Christian biographies and similar works.  I loved It’s All About Him (Denise Jackson--wife of Alan Jackson), The Last Christmas Ride by Edie Hand, and especially Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore.  All books on faith and hope in the face of the junk life throws our way and what happens when we rely on God to make it right.  I just started Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy (Indy Colts head coach) and I’m hooked.  I thought about telling you this offline, but I figured maybe someone else out there might like a list of some good reads.  Not to mention a few good cries! Please keep us posted on Hunter.

Well, Hunter is much better.  Will got the bug and spent last night being sick, but today he is much better.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  I think this week will be better.

And thanks for the list of books, Angela!

Glad to hear you didn’t have to suffer a round of it yourself!  You’re welcome for the list.  I’m nearly finished with the Tony Dungy memoir, but wouldn’t recommend it to most women readers unless they are big football fans.  It is filled with nuggest of hope and faith, but only in between lots and lots of football!  It’s those nuggets that keept me reading, though!
