Greetings from the corner of my home office. No. {clearing throat} Greetings from my guest bedroom, I mean...diaper changing station. Oh, what the heck? How could I ever determine where I am or what I’m doing? I’m doing it all, and I’m doing it right here. And that’s what this site is all about. It’s about me, it’s about my life. The content will probably have an all-too-familiar ring to it for all those other mothers out there who work from home out of absolute self-driven insani...I mean, motivation. I don’t have to do any of this. Except the mommy part, of course. But I love it ALL! Crazy or not, I am not a happy person when the most exciting thing in my day is choosing a sitcom to watch after the kids go to bed. No. I want to dream. I want success. I want to help others succeed and find their own dreams. Life is TOO short to relax (very often).
Okay. Here’s how it all boils down. I, Heather Kate, am a stay-at-home mom of two young children. But I hardly ever actually stay at home. And when I do, “stay” doesn’t seem to describe very well the daily routine. I teach music (very) part-time at the local Christian school, I market the product line for Southern Living at Home, and I manage a freelance business of web and graphic design and professional writing. It all happened quite accidentally, and NONE of it was on my five-year-range plan five years ago. Every day of the week, I juggle at least two of these “jobs”, and many days I manage all three single-handedly while being the full-time caregiver for my preschooler and toddler. Somehow, no doubt with the help of my Heavenly Father, almost everything manages to fit in the schedule. It’s a careful balance, my life. But with HEAVY weekly planning, a wonderfully supportive husband, and go-with-the-flow kids, my life rolls right along as if I’m a normal person.
Oh yeah. So about why you clicked on this page. This site is a strange and new creation, improving upon my original personal site, and more accurately reflecting the current state of my life. (Yes, strange and new. Always new.) HeatherKate.com is a portal for my personal journaling. So, it’s a blog. The site is also a professional portfolio of my design work, and will eventually be a vast resource for my computer consulting clients. And last, but not least, HeatherKate.com is my newest invention for building my Southern Living at Home sales team.
Over the past year I have spent an enormous amount of time communicating with and training my downline (and my web clients, for that matter). I have used a couple of online tools to help with that training, but I have realized the need for a centralized communication hub for my team. While the company itself provides invaluable training and resources, the teamwork is what really makes the business fun and successful. Since most of my team members are not located near me, HeatherKate.com will give us a place to convene (privately, of course).
Are you bored? Read up at the Journal. It’s chock-full of laughs. Do you dream big but with no end in sight? Check out the amazing business opportunity in Dream.
